Amelia, Inspired by Walt Whitman

When I Heard the Learn'd English Teachers

When I learnt grammar, reading, writing, and speaking;
When the rules, the verbs, were taught by the teachers;
When I saw the vocabulary and the structure, to remember, read and love them;
When I, my brows wrinkling, looked at my teachers, who were always happy to give tests and quizzes,
Afterwards, I was confused and crazy;
Still dreaming and hoping they would be nice,
In the noisy class, and day by day,
I wanted to run and fly, disappear from this earth.

When I Saw Him Walking Away

When I saw him walking away;
When his breath, his voice, were flying on the sky;
When I learnt from the birds and spirits, to see, hear, and touch them;
When I, dreaming, saw him, who filled my empty face;
Then, I knew he was a fake;
Still dreaming and laughing, I hoped by myself,
In the freezing night, and full of snow,
Waiting for his smile in the dark sky.

Butterfly

I am a butterfly. It took me a long time to be a beautiful butterfly. Now I have gotten free. I can fly whenever I want and I can go wherever I want. Even though I am a weak thing, I am happy. I love floating in the air and like to suck sweet water from flowers.

Both

Is it play? Or is it real?
I don't know
Who knows?
Nobody knows
Does she know?
I don't know
Does he know?
I don't know

It is play but it is real
Don't you know?
It was real in the action,
In the mind, in the night, in the skin,
White skin, black skin.

They were looking
Each other for many hours.
Finally, in the morning
With the sunshine in their
Backs.

She said, "Are we playing?"
He said, I don't know."
Is it play? Or
Is it real?
They don't know.
"Let's play," she said
"OK," he said.

Over Again

She has been leaving
Her dreams. She has
Been flooding them.
Her memory plays
Tricks on her.
Her heart is losing
Sleep over it.

Over again, over again
Lack of kisses
Lack of hugs

Overflowing with
Tears in her gloomy
Room, she gets his
Bed wet with them.

The telephone rings
She says hello
He say goodbye
She smiles again
After all she's free
From love.
He says to her
Forgive me please
My love, don't leave
Me alone.
She says to him
This is the end.

Human Brotherhood

Brotherhood? yes, human beings are brothers.
Brothers, human beings belong to the same humanity.
Human, all have the same rights.
Human and brothers, all are mother Nature's sons.

You Asked Me

You asked me what I saw today, and I said,
“I saw a morbid man lying on the bed,
I saw a seventy years old elderly contemplating his life,
I saw an old patient saying with his despairing,
And I saw an exhausted human waiting for his death."

You asked me where I have been. I replied,
“I have been in the heaven where everybody wants to go since I saw a bewildering world,
I have been on the beautiful sky talking with God,
And I have been an angel for few hours."

And then you asked, “What do you hope for?”
I told you that I hoped for many things:
For going through this tough of life,
For standing up without lying on the bed,
And most of all,
For living more than thousands of years.

You Asked

You asked me what I saw today,
and I said,
"I saw a flower sleeping in the garden,
I saw a girl swearing allegiance,
I saw a boy stealing the flower,
and I saw a flower dying for the love."

You asked me where I have been.
I replied,
"I have been in the white clouds, in the soft clouds, since the dark.
I have felt the wind in my face and
the freedom in my heart for one day."

And then you asked, "What do you hope for?"
I told you that I hoped for many things:
for the impossible love that everyone has,
for the invisible kiss that you never give,
and most of all,
for the dream about you that I hope it will be true.
